Busatte-Tempesta Trail

Trails of Lake Garda

The Busatte-Tempesta Trail is a natural pedestrian path located on the northeastern coast of Lake Garda, at the foothills of Monte Baldo, connecting the Busatte Park to the Tempesta area. Due to its configuration, this trail offers splendid views of Lake Garda, Torbole, and Monte Brione, earning it the nickname "balcony overlooking Lake Garda." The route includes sections through woodlands, areas characterized by Mediterranean vegetation composed of limestone rocks, shrubs, and evergreen oaks, as well as the Detriti delle Marocche area—an important testament to the last glacial era—rich in fallen rocks, stones, and debris. One of the symbols of this trail is its staircases, totaling about 400 steps, allowing for a quick descent (or ascent, depending on the starting point).

A Bit of History:

The Tempesta area held significant historical importance as it marked the Italian-Austrian border during the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The trail was established in 2005 thanks to the Autonomous Province of Trento and funds from the European Rural Development Plan. While traversing the trail, one can encounter various rocky areas and exposed rock surfaces, the result of significant landslides since the end of the last glaciation.

Getting There:

The trail can be accessed from both the Busatte Park and Tempesta. To reach the Busatte Park, one ascends from the center of Torbole towards the park. The park has its free parking area, while the Panorama Parking area below offers paid parking within a 10-15 minute walk. Tempesta, on the other hand, can be reached by taking a bus heading towards Malcesine, and then walking along the Tempesta forest road, which marks the beginning or end of the trail.

Duration:

Starting from the Busatte Park, the trail is approximately 5 km in length, with a one-way duration of about 1 hour and 30 minutes and an elevation descent of -365 meters. To complete the loop by going both ways, the trail covers a distance of around 10 km with an elevation change of +/-365 meters and a duration of about 3 hours. It's a pedestrian path suitable for all levels of hikers.
